Deconstruction

We eagerly anticipate the upcoming Build Reuse national conference in Savannah, Georgia, and hope to engage with all participants. Our team has been consistently questioned by industry members about the absence of presentations on tax deductions for deconstructed materials. We dedicate considerable time to collaborate with CPAs and tax attorneys, delving into discussions about these deductions and emphasizing the imperative need for an IRS compliant appraisal conducted by a qualified appraiser endorsed by the IRS.

Our CEO, Jessica I. Marschall, CPA, ISA AM, brings a wealth of experience as a practicing CPA for 23 years and is also recognized as an IRS Qualified Appraiser. She has delivered various versions of this presentation tailored for diverse audiences, with a particular focus on CPAs and clients contemplating deconstruction projects. The relevance of tax deductions in bridging the financial gap between demolition and the elevated costs associated with deconstruction cannot be overstated.

Given that deconstruction efforts are frequently linked to tax deductions, our consultancy often involves numerous appraisals for donations. Unfortunately, some of these donations face disapproval due to inadequacies in the appraisal component. We aim to share our extensive knowledge of the process, shedding light on the crucial role the IRS plays in this domain.

It is worth noting that the IRS has recently declared its intention to focus its resources on high net worth individuals and pass-through entities. Significantly, these entities constitute a substantial portion of our deconstruction tax deduction clientele, as the donation's value aligns with the donor's effective or average tax rate.

While we understand that Build Reuse has a packed schedule without room for our presentation, we encourage everyone involved, even tangentially, in deconstruction tax deductions to review this information. We believe it will provide valuable insights into navigating the complexities of the IRS's role in this context.

Please reach out to our team for links to the presentation given in live formats to outside organizations if preferred.
